You nailed the timing - colour in the sky, shady foreground, smooth water and those last rays of sun... that's why i don't do landscapes!

Apparently the beach needs to be "recognisable". Sigh. But also got some really nice ones at 24mm f/11 for location recognition :-)

cracker! I had a similar 'will I rush out and take some sunset photos?' thought yesterday evening but I'd only have time to get blocks of flats and roads in mine before the sun went down. great shot.
